Iconic Disney Dole Whip
If you’ve ever been to Disneyland you know about the Dole Whip served from the Dole stand by the Tiki Room. The lines are always long, but it’s worth the wait because smooth and creamy pineapple soft-serve is super refreshing on a hot California day.
We love Disneyland, but unless you’re a local, it’s not like you can go there every time you crave a pineapple whip, you know?
Pineapple Whip vs Pineapple Float
There are two versions of pineapple whip that you can get at Disneyland.

- Dole Whip – Plain pineapple soft-serve.
- Dole Whip Float – Pineapple soft-serve with pineapple juice.
I had only gotten the plain Dole Whip before our last trip to Disneyland and then I tried the Dole Float. Oh my! It rocked my world! I think I prefer it over the plain soft-serve.
We’ve had both pineapple whips and pineapple floats at Disneyland AND in Hawaii at the Dole Plantation. We are obsessed! Luckily, it’s super easy to make at home for whenever we have a craving.
Dole Whip Ingredients
What is pineapple whip made of? This copycat Dole Whip recipe is made with only 4-ingredients:
- Pineapple Juice
- Vanilla Ice Cream
- Frozen Pineapple Chunks
- Granulated Sugar – Optional, but recommended.
NOTE: Disney’s Dole Whip is actually a dairy-free dessert, so if you have allergies, just use a dairy-free ice cream.
How to Make It
- Add all the ingredients to the blender in the order listed. (Pineapple juice, vanilla ice cream, frozen pineapple chunks and sugar.) Blend until smooth and creamy; about 3 minutes. Stop to scrape the sides and push the mixture down toward the blade as needed.
- Serve immediately, or freeze for 30-40 minutes to be able to pipe the mixture into small ice cream dishes. A Wilton 1M open star piping tip works great for this. (I actually used an extra large Kowanii 1B piping tip.)
- To make floats: Pour pineapple juice 1/4 to 1/3 full inside of a 9oz clear cup. Then pipe or scoop the pineapple whip ice cream into the cup until it reaches the top, or the cup is full. Enjoy!
Tips and Recommendations
- Place ingredients into the blender in the order listed. Adding the liquid first helps things blend easier.
- Use a heavy-duty blender. For the smoothest texture, you need a blender that can handle a lot of frozen things.
- Freeze your own fresh pineapple. The store-bought frozen pineapple chunks are quite large. If you don’t have the best blender, you can cut and freeze your own pineapple so that you can cut it into smaller chunks. See my tutorial for how to cut a pineapple. To freeze fresh pineapple chunks: Spread a single layer of the cut pineapple on a shallow tray and freeze. When frozen, promptly place inside a freezer-safe bag and return to the freezer for up to 6-9 months.

Pineapple Whip Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 oz (118 ml) pineapple juice , plus extra, if making floats
- ¾ cup (98 g) vanilla ice cream, about 1½ scoops
- 2 cups (280 g) frozen pineapple chunks
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
Equipment
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients to the blender in the order listed. Blend until smooth and creamy; about 3 minutes.
- To make floats: Pour pineapple juice ¼ to ⅓ full inside of a 9oz clear cup. Then pipe or scoop the pineapple whip ice cream into the cup until it reaches the top, or the cup is full. Enjoy!
Notes
- Pineapple whip is best eaten immediately or just partially frozen. Freezing the mixture for longer periods of time will make it hard and icy.

Have you or anyone else tried making this with other fruit or fruit blends? I could see pine/banana/citrus being a yummy treat, too.
You can most definitely switch out the frozen pineapple with other frozen fruits. Enjoy!
This looks so refreshing! I’m a huge pineapple lover.
We would love you to share this or any of your amazing posts at our weekly Super Saturday Link Party. It starts Friday’s at 6pm, hope we see you there!

Sounds absolutely amazing! We love pineapple at our house, and you can’t go wrong with pineapple desserts. Thanks so much for sharing. Have a great weekend!
P.S. Visiting from Six Sisters Stuff link party.
Is there a reason you have to freeze them in two separate batches. My ice cream maker freezes a gallon at a time and could easily handle the whole capacity.
Not if your ice cream machine can hold everything, then just do it all at once. I have the Cuisinart machine & I was writing it for that one. I know it’s a popular machine, but yeah, just do it all at once if your machine is big enough 🙂 I hope you like it!
It looks fantastic!! And I think it’s perfect for the summer
I actually have all the ingredients at home, so I might try it very soon 🙂
i havent ever tried the dole whip, but every time people post pics I want to try them! Maybe i’ll try this first since I dont think we’ll make it to disney anytime soon
