Pretzel Treats

Pretzel treats are the some of the easiest and most-loved holiday candies. Why?

  • Inexpensive. Pretzels are cheap, so you get a lot for your money.
  • Quick. It only takes a few minutes in the oven to melt the chocolate candies and top them with something.
  • Semi-homemade. The ingredients aren’t mixed together like cookies, but require very minimal assembly.
  • Delicious. They might be simple, but they aren’t lacking in flavor. Pretzel treats are a salty-sweet delight!

Some of our favorite homemade Christmas candies include soft caramels, easy peanut butter balls, cracker toffee, and peppermint bark.

Turtle candies are another holiday classic. They are chocolate and caramel covered pecan clusters that resemble a turtle, hence the name.

These Rolo pretzel turtles give you the same chocolate, caramel, and pecan flavor, with an added salty crunch thanks to the pretzels on bottom. They are much simpler to make than candy clusters and taste divine!

3-Ingredient Pretzel Turtles

Ingredients to make Rolo Pretzel Turtles.

You only need 3 ingredients to make these pretzel turtles.

  • Mini Pretzels – Some like to use the square pretzels, but mini pretzels are easy to find and work just fine.
  • Rolo Candies – You can even buy unwrapped Rolos to save even more time.
  • Pecan Halves – This is the nut used for turtle candies, but if there is an allergy or dislike, you can use M&M’s to top the Rolo pretzels with.

How to Store Rolo Pretzels

Rolo Pretzel Turtles can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days.

They can also be frozen. Make sure the chocolate has set back up. Then place rolo pretzels in a freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months.

Thaw frozen pretzel turtles in the refrigerator overnight to prevent condensation. Then let the treats come to room temperature before enjoying them.

Can I use anything besides Rolos?

Rolos are the best candy for the caramel and chocolate needed for these pretzel turtles.

Milk Duds can also be used, but may take longer to melt and won’t be quite as thick or cover as much of the pretzel. Hershey’s also has caramel filled kisses that would work well.

If you aren’t worried about having a caramel filling, most Hershey’s Kisses or Hugs work well. (Think of all the holiday flavors!)

Mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups also work, if you want a peanut butter twist. You can get pretty creative with pretzel treats.

Oven vs Microwave for Melting

It’s easiest to melt these Rolo pretzel bites in the oven because you can melt more at a time/all at once. But if you are just making a few for yourself, the microwave works well too.

  • To melt in the oven: Bake at 300˚F for 3 minutes, or until starting to melt. Keep an eye on them, it happens fast.
  • To melt in the microwave: Microwave up to 6 Rolo pretzels on a plate at medium (50% power) for 30 seconds or until caramel has softened slightly.
