Strawberry Dump Cake
Strawberry Dump Cake is an easy dessert recipe that is a lot like cobbler. It uses fresh strawberries, cake mix, and butter. Just dump the ingredients into a pan and bake! It doesn’t get any easier than that!

Strawberry Cobbler
Summer and cobbler go hand-in-hand. It’s also a great alternative to pie for the holidays. It’s cheap and easy to make, but feels special, AND feeds a crowd.
This Strawberry Dump Cake is the EASIEST version of cobbler you can make. And it’s just as delicious as it is easy.
Strawberry Pie Filling vs Fresh Strawberries
While most strawberry dump cake recipes use strawberry pie filling, nothing beats using fresh summer strawberries while they’re in season.

You will simply need to add sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice to the fresh strawberries to make them a little saucier, like pie filling. This is what I do with strawberry crumble too.
Why is it called dump cake?
The reason why dump cakes are so loved, is because you literally dump ingredients into a dish and then bake it.
It’s not the most appetizing name, but with very minimal prep and cleanup, dump cakes are a dessert win!
Everyone loves a warm dump cake with sweet fruit and crunchy cake. Dump cakes are best served warm with vanilla ice cream on top. Don’t forget it!
Ingredients
This strawberry dump cake has six ingredients. (*Full amounts and instructions are in the recipe card at the end of this post.)
- Strawberries – Rinsed, stems removed, and sliced thick.
- Granulated Sugar – To sweeten the berries.
- Cornstarch – To thicken the juices from the strawberries.
- Lemon Juice – Brightens the fruit flavor. Bottled or fresh lemon juice works great.
- Cake Mix – I used Duncan Hines yellow cake mix. But white cake mix would also be great for this recipe.
- Unsalted Butter – Unsalted butter is best for baking to control the salt.
How to Make Strawberry Dump Cake with Fresh Strawberries
Once you have your ingredients, it’s time to make strawberry dump cake.
- Place the sliced strawberries, sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice in a lightly greased 13×9-inch pan.
- Stir together until all the berries are evenly coated. Then spread the fruit evenly in pan.
- Sprinkle dry cake mix evenly over the strawberries.
- Layer thin slices of butter over the cake mix.
Baking and Serving
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 35-45 minutes until filling bubbles, the center puffs up, and the cake has browned.
- TIP: Use an offset spatula to spread the butter on top of the cake mix after it has melted; after about 8-10 minutes in the oven. This helps ensure no dry traces of cake mix.
Serve strawberry dump cake warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired. Whipped cream would also be delicious. Enjoy!
Storage
Cover leftovers in the pan with foil or transfer the dessert to an airtight container. You can store this strawberry dump cake in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Scoop leftovers individually into a microwave safe bowl and nuke until heated through.
